  • If you are overweight you are more prone to suffer from acid reflux.
  • Pregnant women often suffer from acid reflux due to the weight gain and the baby.
  • Consuming fatty and greasy foods will make acid reflux symptoms worse!
  • You are more likely to suffer from acid reflux or heartburn after a heavy meal.
  • Spicy foods will also increase acid reflux symptoms.

Those suffering from acid reflux often feel such discomfort that it affects the way they live their lives. Certain foods should be avoided, they can become sleep deprived if acid reflux symptoms keep them up all night.

The constant irritated esophagus may become damaged and develop painful ulcers. This can make eating painful.

Acid Reflux Treatment

There are many ways you can treat your acid reflux. Some can even be done at home. Simple changes are often all that is needed to treat acid reflux.

  • Tums. Having tums on had at all times is often the 1st thing people suffering from acid reflux do. Tums is inexpensive and effective. Most doctors say Tums is safe from pregnant women but you should check with your doctor just to be safe! Tums works by neutralizing acids.
  • Dietary Changes. There are specific diets for treating acid reflux. All alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, greasy foods, and overly processed foods should be limited or better yet eliminated from the diet.
  • Some foods that you may find help acid reflux include: Watermelon, cucumbers, bananas, carrot juice, cold milk and iced water.
  • Eat smaller meals. A full stomach is more likely to cause acid reflux so try to replace 3 larger meals a day with 5-6 smaller meals.
  • Use Gravity to keep foods down. You should keep upright several hours after eating. One of the worst things you could do would be to lay down after a meal. Keep upright and give your food a chance to digest.
  • Stop stressing out. This is easier said than done. Stress can cause an upset stomach. If you frequently suffer from stress this can slow down the body’s healing time.
  • Sleep at an angle. Keep your head higher than your feet. This will help keep stomach acids in your stomach and ease acid reflux symptoms.

Drinking alcohol can worsen the situation, and caffeine, carbonated drinks, and fruit juices which are acidic, such as orange juice, also worsen the symptoms. Some things, such as not wearing anything tight around your stomach or losing some weight, may help you.
